The Association's 2015 Annual General Meeting was held on a beautiful spring day in Radyr, Cardiff.
Ringing before the Service and tea saw touches of Grandsire, Stedman and Bristol, with a very pleasant "service touch" of Stedman Triples to finish.
The Service was led by Reverend Canon Jenny Mole and this preceded a very pleasant traditional "ringers' tea" reputed to have been all hand-made or home baked under the direction of Peter Brennan.
The 200 Club draws for March and April were supervised by Wendy Reilly before the Meeting, which took place despite representations saying that the Meeting hadn't been called according to the Rules as notification to the towers hadn't been within the prescribed timescales. It was explained that the Notices would usually be distributed with the Annual Reports but, due to the tight production timescales this hadn't been possible this year. Thankfully, the pragmatic view was taken and, given that the Meeting was quorate with a good representation of towers, the Meeting went ahead as planned.
The rest of the Meeting proceeded as expected and following the remembrance of those Association Members lost through death in the previous year and the Officers' Reports, the following Officers were elected for 2015-16:
Master:
Fred Jackson (Llandaff Cathedral)
Chairman:
John Vesey (Llandaff Cathedral)
General Secretary:
Mike Penney* (Shirenewton)
Treasurer:
Phil Hopkins* (Llantarnam)
Public Relations Officer:
Held in Abeyance
BRF Trustees:
Barry Hayman* & David Moore*
Independent Examiners:
Jennet Mundy* & Paul Rogers*
(* denotes Officer re-elected)
There is therefore a vacancy for the post of Public Relations Officer. Association Members interested in filling this position are invited to contact the Association Chairman for an informal discussion. The Job Description is available for download from this page.
There followed a discussion about the last Central Council Meeting and views were aired as to the future of The Ringing World, about which there has been much written in the "social media" in recent months.
Jonathan Lewis, the immediate past Association Master, advised the Meeting that "Long Service Certificates" had been prepared for this members with 40+ and 50+ years Membership of the Association. The list had been compiled from the archives and records and was the best that could be achieved. Any oversights would, of course, be corrected. Certificates for those with 25+ years Membership were being prepared but this was a large task! It is intended that once this inital batch has been competed then it will become an ongoing project.
The Meeting was advised of the dates for the All Wales Striking Competition (Llanbadarn Fawr, 26th September 2015) and Association Quiz Night (Llanishen, 16th October 2015). Following the success of the 2014 Pitman Trophy, the 2015 event will again be held on a mid-week evening, date and venue to be confirmed. The date of the 2016 Association AGM was set as 23rd April 2016, to be held in the Monmouth Branch.
Finally, the Radyr ringers received a tumultuous round of applause in recognition of their hospitality and the very fine food and drink they had provided.
